The Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance (GBRIA) announced the winners of its 29th Annual Safety Excellence Awards. The awards were presented at a banquet held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the L’Auberge Resort in Baton Rouge. Approximately 625 guests attended the event, which featured safety and parody videos produced by Alliance Safety Council starring GBRIA members and contractors.
The awards program was established in 1996 by the late Hal G. Ginn, who was the DSM Copolymer Plant Manager at the time, to recognize outstanding safety performance by contractors working in GBRIA member industrial facilities. Ginn played an instrumental role as the board chair of GBRIA in raising safety standards and expectations in the Baton Rouge industry, which has spread across the U.S. with other petrochemical and heavy industrial manufacturers. The awards are intended to convey GBRIA members’ strong support of contractors and plant safety performance, working together with plants and construction project owners to ensure a safe workplace.
GBRIA member companies who nominated their highest performing contractors include Air Liquide, Americas Styrenics, BASF, CF Industries, PBF Energy Chalmette Refining, Cornerstone Chemical Company, Delek, Deltech, Dow, Eastman, Ethos Energy, ExxonMobil, Formosa Plastics, Honeywell, Koch Methanol, The Linde Group, Lion Elastomers, Marathon, Methanex, NOVA Chemicals, Nucor, OxyChem, Placid Refining Company, Rubicon, Shell, Shintech, SNF Flopam, and Westlake.
The winning contract companies demonstrated a level of safety excellence that includes millions of hours worked without injury, a commitment by management to educate workers, and fostering a zero-incident culture. GBRIA members nominated a total of 49 companies representing more than 251 million hours (about 29,000 years) worked.
The 2025 GBRIA Contractor Safety Excellence Awards were presented in eight service categories with companies being further subdivided into each category by either Division I, Division II or Division III based on hours worked last year.
